| Description: | Community resource for those interested in sustaining the Fort Ord Public Lands, Monterey County, California |
The Fort Ord Public Lands are managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) from their Fort Ord Project office under the direction of their Hollister Office's. The Project Office is located on Eucalyptus Rd at the intersection of Parker Flats Rd. The official BLM Trail Map illustrates the established trail network.
This website supplements trail information with detailed enumeration of the length of each trail segment, provides a trail profile, 3-D maps of each sector and describes the current trail condition and use pattern. Altitudes were taken from USGS Topographic Maps. Measurements of maximum slope were taken from a Bicycle Computer, average slope was determined from DeLorme's Topo software. The trails are rated using the "Ski Trail" convention where Green >Blue >Black >Double Black indicate increasing technical challenges. (See map) Please realize that rain can change things; sand gets firmer and clay gets slicker. GPS data for each trail and road are now available on TopoShare.org and links to particular trails are provided on each trail's web page. You can import trail and road from Toposhare and view it in Google Earth. You can also use MyTopo.com to create and order prints of your own topographic maps of Fort . You can also use MapCard.com to create and download 8 by 11 and 11 by 17 topographic images.
The trails are organized into eight regional sectors to facilitate finding geographically grouped trails since the trail numbering system is not strictly geographically focused.
